Why corporate IT should unchain our office computers

I've worked on both sides of the fence and trust me one thing you learn is users are idiots and are not to be trusted. Most can't handle reading simple instructions on a screen in my experience. So while the lock-downs are frustrating and time consuming for the few, they protect us from the many, because not being able to use a certain app may slow you down, but allowing someone to infect your whole network which has to be taken offline and fixed, even then data may be lost, is a whole lot more money sapping.

However, I agree opening up the internet is probably a good thing and locking down access to certain sites is a waste of time.
